Chelsea legend appointed Antwerp manager

11:46 30/05/2013

Former Netherlands and Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been named as the new manager of Belgian second division side Royal Antwerp, reports The Independent. Hasselbaink, who was on the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest, has signed a one-year deal with the remit of taking the former UEFA Cup Winners' Cup runners-up back up to the top flight. The 41-year-old told Antwerp's website: "This was a very attractive proposition to begin my career as a coach. "Our first goal is to go to for promotion and then continue to build. "Antwerp, known as the ‘Great Old’, is Belgium’s oldest recognised football team – it was founded in 1895 - but currently languishes in the second tier of the competition. "Our hard work starts today." Hasselbaink spent much of his playing career in England, playing for Leeds, Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Charlton before ending his career with Cardiff City.
