Chaussée d'Ixelles road closures begin today
A year of roadworks on the Chaussée d'Ixelles begins this Tuesday, as preparations are made for a daytime traffic ban and more space for pedestrians.
From 2 May, the busy shopping street will become one-way from Place Fernand Cocq towards Porte de Namur. From 16 May, this section will be closed in both directions.
Brussels' busiest bus route, line 71, will be diverted as a result. Starting today, from Porte de Namur, buses towards Delta will run via Trône, Luxembourg and Avenue de la Couronne to Flagey.
Then, from 16 May, the 71 bus from Flagey towards De Brouckère will be diverted via Avenue de la Couronne and Chaussée de Wavre.
Once the roadworks are completed next year, the Chaussée d'Ixelles will be closed to daytime traffic between Porte de Namur and Place Fernand Cocq from 7.00 to 19.00, Monday to Saturday, with the exception of taxis, buses and residents. Licence-plate-scanning cameras will be installed to ensure that the rules are respected.

Let the fun begin. No roadworks ever last less than a year in Belgium and delays are routine. So much money being spent and for what?

BTW they can do it. i saw that 2 weekends ago they were doing works near Schuman. They worked overnight and were ready within 3 days (!!!!). Yes miracles do happen, also here.
But normally yes....is it a 10 years plan...sigh. Most likely a month after it is finished, the road will be broken up again as mistakes were made...as it normally goes in Brussels
