certificate of mailing

Question

Is there a 'certificate of mailing' equivalent at Bpost? I need to have proof of having mailed some documents to the US by a specific date. Certified mail won't work as it's a government office and they do not sign for received mail. Same with DHL, TNT, etc, they all require a signature.

Thanks in advance.

Hi jkr, Yes. Use "Envoi Recommandé/Aaangetekende Zending". In English registered post. You will find this form in any of the post office. By sending documents by registered or certified mail, with the sender's receipt postmarked you will be able to obtain proof of mailing of your documents.

Porcha. I’m not sure, but I think you may have misinterpreted the question. The person asking the question said that the addressee in USA will not sign for registered mail which Envoi Recommande would require. I believe there is another option where the person receiving the mail does not have to sign, but the sender does have proof that the letter was mailed. This is to ask to be able to track the item being sent. This costs a bit more (but still less than “recommande) but the sender can track the progress of the item and at the same time has proof that it was mailed.

I had to do this some time ago and I got a simple 'proof of posting'. It was called a 'bewijs van post' or something similar though I've no idea what it might be called in French.

Before you bother with proof of postage (which you just ask for) have you considered if it will make the slightest difference in the case of non arrival? Just a thought, because I know it usually will not.

I think you can mail them internal tracked I think even if it's not signed you get to follow it I sent a birth cert to passport office in UK that way and I know they don't sign. It did vanish for three days then turned up in UK at correct place was just listed as passed I. Tontenational. Oddly was told to use a Russian site to trace it because it showed them all. Cost me €6 for the small letter size.

As others have said, use Envoi Recommandé/Aaangetekende Zending. Whether the government will sign or not on receipt is irrelevant. People send registered mail and fedex / ups whatever packages to the government all the time. Just because they won't sign for it doesn't mean they won't receive it.

The Recommandé proves you posted it.
