Cerebral Palsy

Question

I need to get my young teen tested for cerebral palsy. Other than the CHS, would anyone have a recommendation of where to go for it please. Live in the overijse area, but will travel. thnx.

I

go to your family doctor who will best advise you where to go, could cost as little as 5 euro for this advice with mutuelle reimbursement.

I recommend Dr. Van Exem as an excellent GP in Overijse. He could certainly tell you where to go from there.

The best bet is to contact the head of the pediatrics department at a majoy hospital, for example St Luc and ask to be referred to the most relevant person. Though your son is a young teen, a pediatrician should still be familiar with the most relevant expert for him to see. You could also contact your Mutualité who should be able to let you know if there are extra services he can benefit from such as assistance or extra allowances. In my case, my child was followed by a pediatrician (now retired) who was head of a pediatrics department, really treated us so well and made sure we got looked after. Good luck!

CP is not something that somewhere like CHS can assess.

Generally it is picked up and diagnosed as a baby/ toddler and usually be confirmed by clinical assessment and specific tests (particularly MRI brain scans) may be carried out.

The professionals involved usually are :
Pediatrician or neurologist
A physiotherapist

CHS would be somewhere if the child already has a diagnosis and needs an global/educational assessment. To assess and write reports/advise the child's specific needs in for example an educational setting.
