Biotechnology company Celyad, based in Mont-Saint-Guibert in Walloon Brabant, has announced the first successful cure of a leukaemia patient using its patented cell therapy CAR-T.

The therapy was used on a patient suffering from intractable acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a cancer of the blood.

The patient, treated in the US, had not received chemotherapy before the use of CAR-T therapy.

The patient was one of 14 being treated with CAR-T in a study taking place in the US and Europe.
