Catholic secondary school or atheneum

Question

Good morning expats,

We have a place in two Dutch speaking schools in Brussel: Koniklijke Atheneum Etterbeek and Sint Jan Berchmanscollege. Our child is very smart, skipped the class once and is bored now again in the 6th grade in the good catholic school. We want high academic level but we want her as first to be happy. We are not religious, we are not Belgian, but coming from eastern Europe. What would you suggest and why? We understood that atheneum is for a "lower class"? We also see that catholic schools are very old fashioned, no English until year 3, no ICT.. Ridiculus punishments.. Thanks in advance for any comment.

> atheneum is for a "lower class"
No. Atheneum is state run.
.
> catholic schools are very old fashioned,
And follow the same curriculum as all the other schools in the Flemish community. You know - the one that scores so highly on the PISA reports?
.
> no English until year 3,
How many well educated Flemish people do you know who's English is not good enough to use the language for work?
.
> no ICT..
Waste of space. They do use computers at home for homework, teamwork, research, etc., but formal 'ICT' at school? No - the time is better spent learning skills that will be useful and won't go out of date.

> Ridiculus punishments
Like?
.
> Sint Jan Berchmanscollege
If it's good enough for the royal family, I don't quite see why it shouldn't be good enough for you.
