Can I defer Contrôle technique

Question

My car's "Contrôle technique" is due in 2 weeks and I received a reminder from the Ministry. Unfortunately, I am out of the country and will return only in October. Can I defer the inspection until then? I mean, is there any grace period for expired certificates? Thanks for your answers.

Mimi

There is no problem, you just pay about 10 euros extra at the next inspection even if you are months late, But if your car is parked on a public road there is a risk of the police checking it because it is sitting in the same place for a long time and that would be a heavy fine. They might even tow it, raising costs.

Mimi,
thanks for the answer.
I'll get it done in Oct then, paying the fine.
But about the parking, I've parked on a public road it in front of my house. I do hold a resident's parking permit. Would it still be a problem for long term parking at one spot?
Regards.

You can get your CT done in advance and you lose nothing by doing so.
If your CT is due on 15 September 2013 your new one will be valid until 15 September 2014 whether you have in done in advance or wait until October. Also, technically, once your CT is expired you can only legally use the car for the purpose of taking it direct to the nearest testing station. Not fun if you are involved in an accident and your insurers use your lack of a valid CT to refuse a claim.

I am not sure, but I think you are not allowed to leave your car in the same spot, even if it legal, for longer than a month. Maybve someone here can confirm that. Safest is to send the key to a friend to take it to CT and re-park it.
