Budget supermarket Lidl sees big potential in Belgium

21:36 20/02/2018

Business is booming for discount supermarket chain Lidl in Brussels, which is opening three new stores this month and creating 65 jobs.

The German budget retailer said it was investing €35 million in the Brussels region, opening new supermarkets in Schaerbeek, Molenbeek and Anderlecht. An existing store in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe will also be extended and renovated.

Lidl sees Belgium as an important growth market and hopes to open 10 new shops a year and renovate 10 more. The company said it envisaged 1,500 new jobs would be created in Belgium by 2020.
