Brussels’ white elephant continues to grow

10:57 02/12/2013

When it appeared it could get no worse, the ongoing Justice Palace renovation has been hit with more bad news only days following a bomb scare hoax.

Seemingly never-ending, the renovation demands of the Brussels’ landmark building have grown to include the scaffolding itself.

The familiar long-time obstruction, and structure to allow for the actual work to be completed, is now not only in need of a complete rebuild after being deemed unsafe by authorities, but it is reported to have also been built illegally.

Repeated major renovation delays have led the structure to deteriorate, leaving many local politicians frustrated and embarrassed.

The project, with plans to see the building become a vast commercial space and tourist attraction, has already been in the works since 2003 and seen its contractor go bankrupt, appears to have no clear ending yet in sight.
