Brussels public transport price freeze likely for 2017
STIB public transport fares in Brussels look set to be frozen in 2017 - with some members of the Brussels government calling for a price freeze until 2020.
The decision not to increase fares still needs to be adopted by the STIB board. A proposal to increase on-board tickets from €2.50 to €3, and tickets from machines from €2.10 to €2.50, was thrown out.
The discussion on fare changes had been delayed several times because the region's mobility minister Pascal Smet fell ill with a lung infection in November, leaving him out of action until the new year.
Meanwhile, the STIB is inviting metro users to submit a playlist of their favourite Christmas songs by 18.00 on Friday. The selection with the most votes will be played at all metro and premetro stations next Wednesday.
