Brussels Modern Art Museum to open by 2020
Brussels will finally get a museum of modern art, with the new building scheduled to open its doors in the former Citroën garage at Yser in the course of 2019-2020. The bulk of the collection will be borrowed from a renowned international museum, Brussels councilman Yves Goldstein told Bruzz.
Goldstein, the driving force behind the Citroën Project, made the announcement last weekend during Indiscipline, a Paris exhibition of the works of 36 Brussels artists, writes La Libre Belgique in a report that has since been confirmed by the cabinet of Brussels prime minister Rudi Vervoort.
"The new museum will open in 2019-2020, as the culmination of a year dedicated to contemporary art in the Brussels region," Goldstein said in Paris. "It is our political will to make of Brussels a capital of modern art."
Details about the project, including the cost of the museum and specifics about the collection, will be provided by Vervoort at the end of September.
