Brussels launches All Genders Welcome campaign
The second edition of the All Genders Welcome campaign launched on Monday in Schaerbeek with an introduction by equal opportunities minister Bianca Debaets. Six Brussels communes are taking part in the awareness campaign, which is part of the current Pride Festival, writes Het Laatste Nieuws.
The six communes participating in this year's All Genders Welcome project are Brussels, Ixelles, Schaerbeek, Jette, Forest and Watermael-Boitsfort. They take part in a poster campaign featuring portraits of government officials who break traditional gender roles. The aim is to sensitise municipal staff members to problems such as sexism and stereotyping of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders.
“People of all genders and sexual orientation are not only welcome in town hall, but also in their community and throughout the region. Communicating the power of diversity in Brussels is as important as ever," says Debaets.
In addition to the poster campaign, All Genders Welcome will provide training for commune staff and managers on creating awareness to break prejudices.
