Brussels hosts four special days to send letters to Saint-Nicolas

14:05 12/11/2024

Have you been good this year? If so and you are a child living in Brussels, you can send a letter to Saint-Nicolas/Sinterklaas on four set days in the capital, Belgium’s postal service bpost has announced.

Special Saint-Nicolas post boxes in the saint's colours can be found in stations, shopping centres and Kinepolis cinemas around Belgium, with special events planned in Antwerp, Hasselt, Leuven, Namur, Brussels, Kortrijk, Braine-l’Alleud, Bruges, Ghent, Liege, Aron, Sint-Niklaas (no relation), Mechelen and Mons.

In Brussels, you can go to Kinepolis Brussels on Saturday 16 November (12.30-18.00) and Sunday 17 November (10.45-18.00) or to Docks Bruxsel shopping centre near the canal in Laeken on Friday 22 November (10.00-20.00), or Saturday 23 November (10.00 to 19.00).

When children drop their letter or drawing in the box, they can see a video of the great man writing his reply. Then a door will open, with the Saint-Nicolas letter, in front of several surprises.

And do not despair if you cannot reach the letterbox at one of these special occasions. Children can still send a letter in the normal way via any bpost letterbox to the Saint-Nicolas secretariat at Rue du Paradis 1, 0612 Ciel.

Letters received before 15 December, and with a clear return address on the back of the envelope, will be answered by Saint-Nicolas's helpers.

Nursery and primary school teachers can also send a letter on behalf of their class, and include works of art by the pupils. The class will then receive a joint response letter in return.
