Brussels' Grand Place becomes market again for a day

11:16 10/05/2017

“On Thursday, 11 May, the most beautiful square in the world will once again fulfill its old role as market square,” announced the Brussels alderwoman for economic affairs Marion Lemesre. For the 'Marché des Marchés' (Market of Markets) event, more than 30 merchants from 15 of the city's regular open-air markets will come together on the historic Grand Place, writes Bruzz.

For one day only, the Grand Place will be filled with local merchants selling their wares instead of tourists wielding cameras. The merchants will man their stands from 11.00 to 20.00 for the first edition of the Market of Markets. There will be something for everyone: antiques, fruit and veg, clothes, vintage and more. "This symbolic location offers a taste of the diversity of the Brussels markets," said Lemesre.

The Market of Markets is part of the larger 'I love my market' campaign, which runs until the end of May and features a series of special activities at neighbourhood markets across the capital.
