Brussels free wifi network draws 10,000 connections a day

18:11 11/06/2017

Every day, about 10,000 connections are made to one of the free hotspots in Brussels. Half a million users are registered for the service, says network operator IRISnet, which will continue to add more hotspots, especially in the metro stations, writes Bruzz.

IRISnet, which also supplies dozens of Brussels government agencies with telecom services, presented the figures last week in its annual report. The company, a public-private partnership with Orange Belgium, increased its sales last year by 56% to €17.7 million, including €1.2 million net profit.

IRISnet also provides schools with high-speed fiber optic networks and is in charge of the infrastructure for the many surveillance cameras in the capital.
