Brussels' first 'dog cafe' opens today in Ixelles
Dogood Café, which claims to be Brussels’ very first dog café, will open in Ixelles this Thursday (4 September).
The initiative is not only aimed at dog owners who want to have a drink with their four-legged friends, but also wants to offer social added value, Bruzz reports.
The cafe will be staffed by people with disabilities and there will be opportunities for adoptions. Dogood Café will work with the Sans Collier shelter to match adoptable dogs that do not immediately find a home with an owner.
“There are so many dogs looking for a loving home, and at the same time, there are people with disabilities who have few opportunities in the job market – we want to give them a place,” said co-founder Niccolo Ferro.
The cafe will serve meals for both dogs and people, and even the dishes for people will only use ingredients that dogs can also eat. For example, no chocolate will be stored on site.
The café will also have two dogs who are permanent residents: Yuna and Isidore.
Although the Dogood Café is not organising an opening party until 28 September, the cafe will be open to the public from today (Thursday) at Rue Dautzenberg 7.
