Brussels chocolate among '12 treasures of Europe', says New York Times
"While Brussels is home to hundreds of chocolatiers, what makes a visit imperative… is the rich heritage of artisanal chocolate-makers,” writes The New York Times in an article about the 12 treasures of Europe. The piece appeared in the Travel section of the newspaper’s October 19 issue, for which writers and editors selected special products to profile from a dozen cities around Europe.
Writer and food blogger Amy M. Thomas worked on the piece after visiting Chocolatier Mary, located in Brussels’ Rue Royale/Koningsstraat for 95 years. She also praised Debailleul, the small chain that makes bonbons “so refined and beautiful, it’s almost — almost — a shame to indulge,” according to Thomas.
Besides Brussels chocolate, the article includes Berlin street art, Budapest paprika, Copenhagen design, Florence silk, Madrid guitars, London hats and Paris umbrellas in its list of Europe’s 12 greatest treasures.
