Brussels Beer Project to open brewery in Dansaert

A new micro-brewery is set to open in Brussels’ Dansaert district. Brussels Beer Project has purchased a former brewery near the canal and intends to begin brewing there from next summer. They will also launch a new crowdfunding operation to raise money for the initiative, reports brusselnieuws.be

Since young Brusselaars Olivier de Brauwere and Sébastien Morvan set up the Brussels Beer Project last year, the entrepreneurs have launched several beers thanks to money raised via crowdfunding. They currently brew atypical beers, such as Delta and Grosse Bertha, at their Brewery Anders in Halen, Limburg province. The collective has now purchased a building near the canal in Rue Dansaert/Dansaertstraat, which they plan to convert into a cooperative micro-brewery.

The building housed a brewery until the early 20th century. Starting next year, the Brussels Beer Project wants to again brew beer at the location, with an initial target of 600,000 bottles per year. "We want to start off with 20 different recipes," says de Brauwere. "Then we’ll let the public choose their favourite."

The new brewery is set to open in the summer of 2015, and will employ at least 10 people. The project requires a total investment of about half a million euros.
