Brussels to become seaside resort, warn climatologists

10:14 09/07/2015

A worrying map of Europe - retweeted hundreds of times yesterday via Twitter - shows how the continent would look if all of the planet’s pole ice were to melt, writes De Morgen.

According to National Geographic's version of the map (pictured), the sea level would rise by about 66 metres, wiping out most of Ireland, the Netherlands and Denmark. The sea level would also take over most of Belgium, turning Brussels into a coastal city, according to the map.

Business Insider in turn provided an animation based on the same concept, in which the cities are clearly marked.

While climatologists expect it will take thousands of years for all of the ice caps to melt, they nevertheless warn that the process is occurring at an alarming rate.
