Brussels bans heavy trucks from city centre

21:06 11/02/2018

Trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are to be banned from central Brussels, the city has announced.

The ban applies to all streets within the Pentagon inner ring road. New signs are being put up and the city council is working with sat-nav providers to program alternative routes.

City of Brussels councillor for mobility Els Ampe said: "The historic centre of Brussels is made up of very small, narrow streets with tight turns that are not suitable for heavy goods vehicles."

She added: "This measure will make the streets safer for all users."
