During the Christmas holidays, some 527,000 people will travel or return from abroad at Brussels Airport, more than twice as many as last year. It is still just over 50% of the number of passengers who passed through the airport during Christmas in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic began.

At the start of the holidays on Friday, the airport expects some 36,000 passengers, of whom 21,000 depart.

Popular destinations during the end-of-year period are the Canary Islands, Alicante and Malaga, city trip destinations such as Rome, Vienna and Barcelona but also intercontinental destinations such as New York and Dubai.

Over the past few months, Brussels Airport has consistently reported passenger figures of between 50 to 60% of the number recorded in 2019, before the pandemic.
