Brussels Airlines to start charging for cabin baggage
Brussels Airlines will begin charging passengers for cabin baggage under a newly announced pricing model.
The airline is introducing the change as part of a broader strategy already adopted by several low-cost carriers, separating basic ticket prices from additional services.
Under the new system, passengers will still be allowed to bring a small personal item on board for free, but larger cabin bags will come at an extra cost.
“The price will depend, as with an airline ticket, on the time of purchase, the destination, and therefore the flight duration,” said Brussels Airlines spokesperson Joëlle Neeb. “We can say that it will start from €15.”
The move reflects a wider trend in the aviation industry, where airlines aim to offer lower base fares while charging for optional extras. Other airlines belonging to the Lufthansa group will also adopt these guidelines.
No exact start date has been confirmed, but the changes are expected to apply to new bookings in the coming months.
This April and May, the company will test the new system with a new fare called Economy Basic.
Passengers are advised to check the updated baggage policy when booking flights to avoid unexpected costs.
