Breastmilk donation

Question

Dear all,
I have a stock of breastmilk in my freezer which was supposed to be given to my baby when i start working next week but unfortunately she is refusing to drink the milk from the freezer. Does anybody know if it is possible to donate milk in belgian hospitals? It would be such a waste to throw it when some other babies needing it can use them. Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm sorry to hear that your baby refuses to drink the milk which you have stored but think it's great that you don't want the milk to go to waste. I don't know if you understand dutch but have found following info http://www.lalecheleague.be/borstvoedingabc/borstvoedingaz/154.html . Basically it says that there is no official breastmilk bank in Belgium. However many hospitals do use other mother's milk for baby's whose own mother can't provide it. I think you could maybe contact the "maternité" of the hospital where you gave birth or la leche league. Hopefully you'll be able to help someone out with the milk! All the best with returning to work!

Thank you, i will check the link you sent . Also inhave contacted the midwife who helped me after the delivery. Hopefully i can find a mother who needs some extra milk. I would be very sad if the milk goes to waste. Many thanks again !

Human Milk 4 Human Babies - a global network on Facebook where you can donate/procure milk in your local area (the global page can link you to the Belgian site).

How old is your daughter? Are you sure that donation is the only solution possible? If she's refusing a slow-flow bottle how about a sippy cup, or just straight out of a cup? Otherwise you could add the milk to her food if you're doing purees, or blend it as a banana smoothie. Just because she refuses it now doesn't mean she always will , you could save it and try again in a few weeks/months when she's older.Just a few ideas :-)
