Body of stowaway found in Brussels Airlines flight
Belgium
09:00 09/06/2016
The body of a man has been found by mechanics at Brussels Airport in an aircraft belonging to Brussels Airlines. The man had hidden in the landing gear of the flight from Dakar in Senegal. He had no identification in his possession, the prosecutor for Halle-Vilvoorde said.
An autopsy will be carried out, however stowaway deaths are usually caused by a combination of lack of oxygen and hypothermia. Trauma can also be caused by landing gear machinery.
The last such incident at the airport in Zaventem was in 2007 on another Brussels Airlines flight. A man from Banjul in Gambia was also discovered dead in the landing gear.
