Bjork coming to Ghent this summer

10:40 11/03/2018

From Flanders Today: Belgium has been met with a deluge of summer festival announcements this week, as line-ups are finalised and tickets go on sale. The splashiest disclosure came out of Gent Jazz, which announced that Bjork will be playing in the city’s Sint-Pietersplein as part of the festival.

The Icelandic pop music master (pictured) will take the stage in the cobblestoned square on 11 July. Tickets are on sale now.

Other big names at Gent Jazz are Italian singer, pianist and composer Paolo Conte and Belgian singer Melanie De Biasio, who – with the help of her hit single “Your Freedom is the End of Me – sold out three shows last year at Brussels’ Ancienne Belgique.

Rock Werchter, meanwhile, added 25 new names this week, completing its four-day line-up. New names include Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Novastar, The Breeders and Emma Bale. Headliners for Belgium’s largest music festival are Queens of the Stone Age, Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys and The Killers.

Brussels’ Couleur Café, meanwhile, announced this week that Belgian  artist Selah Sue would grace its stage, as well as American neo-soul hero D’Angelo and Jamaican reggae singer Chronixx. Already-announced acts at the world music festival include Ziggy Marley, George Clinton and Calypso Rose.
