Bikes in Brussels Fund: €1.5 million for 13 new cycling infrastructure projects

16:39 06/05/2026

The Bikes in Brussels Fund continues its commitment to sustainable mobility by granting nearly €1.5 million for 13 new cycling infrastructure projects, it said in a statement.

The fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, has already been supporting more than 120 cycling infrastructures over the last seven years across Brussels.

These projects address concrete needs such as securing bicycle parking, facilitating daily travel, and making cycling safer and more accessible in the capital.

Spread across the capital, they aim to implement the following initiatives:

Auderghem: The Athénée Royal is creating a bicycle parking facility with 80 spaces to encourage students and teachers to cycle to school.

Berchem-Sainte-Agathe: The municipality is installing new, secure and accessible cycling infrastructure near key locations to address the shortage of bicycle parking in certain neighbourhoods.

Evere: The municipality is creating three new bicycle parking areas, including a covered facility at Square de l’Accueil near the Clair-Vivre school, as well as a covered bicycle shelter near the Triton swimming pool with additional space for cargo bikes.

Ixelles: Non-profit Les Amis de Saint-André plans to build a secure bicycle garage with 40 spaces at the Institute Saint-André, to reduce theft and promote sustainable mobility within the school.

Saint-Gilles: The municipality is building a large, secure bicycle shelter in a neighbourhood where 72% of households do not own a car and rely heavily on cycling as an alternative to driving.

Schaerbeek: The municipality is redesigning Place Lehon to create more space for pedestrians and cyclists, including new cycle lanes.

Uccle: The Royal Racing Club of Brussels is expanding its bicycle park for 3,000 visitors per week, while the Royal Meteorological Institute is building an above-ground, covered and secure bicycle parking facility.

The fund is also supporting four major projects that aims to improve cycling connections between Brussels and the surrounding area:

  • Extension of the fast-cycling route F2 to Brussels, creating a safe cycling link between Flanders and the capital.
  • Development of a 3.5 km section of the fast-cycling route F204 along the E411, offering a safe connection to Brussels with infrastructure that limits interactions with motor traffic.
  • Construction of a nearly 90-metre-long cycling bridge over the Ring, connecting Dilbeek to Anderlecht, to improve safety and traffic flow for cyclists heading to Brussels.
  • Creation of a new link to Brussels Airport, integrated into the F201 cycle route, thanks to a major tram–bike viaduct crossing the Brussels Ring.
