Belgium’s What If? wins International Emmy Award

09:26 25/11/2014

The second season of the Belgian TV sketch series Wat Als? (What If?) won an Emmy Award for best comedy during the International Emmy Awards in New York yesterday.

The Dutch-language Wat Als? , with an ensemble cast including Bruno Vanden Broecke, Koen De Graeve, Charlotte Vandermeersch and Sara De Bosschere, features numerous skits that always start from the absurd premise 'What if...' Such as 'What if ... Barbie was a real woman?" or "What if... doctors talked liked they wrote?"

The second season started in February 2013 on channel 2BE. Since then, the programme has won numerous international awards, including a Rose d'Or (Golden Rose), the gold medal at the World Media Festival in Hamburg and the Rockie Award at the BANFF World Media Festival in Canada.

The big winners at the International Emmies were the British, who took home three top prizes from America's leading television awards.
