Belgium takes gold in European Indoor Athletics Championships
The Belgian Tornados relay team on Sunday took home a gold medal on the final day of the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Prague for the men’s 4×400-metre relays. The team, with Julien Watrin and the Borlée brothers, Dylan, Jonathan and Kevin, finished in 3 minutes 02.87 seconds, beating the 2011 European and Belgian indoor record.
Father and coach Jacques Borlée had Watrin start first, allowing him to keep a steady second place until Dylan launched into the race behind the Polish leaders. When Jonathan stepped in, he was able to tighten the gap, but it was Kevin (pictured) who made the final winning spurt past Poland’s Jakub Krzewina for the gold.
The silver medal went to Poland (3:02.97), and the bronze to the Czech Republic (3:04:09).
