Belgium Nationality- gap in renewal of ID

Question

Hello,

My wife and I applied Belgium nationality June 20, however we haven't received any answer yet. 5 months already passed.
It also can happen our last ID renewal in 2019, due to policy change on process we were able to get the ID card with one week delay. It was not related to our late appointment as we had to wait 8 weeks to get new ID.

Is there anyone rejection due to gap in ID renewal? Is 5 months a good sign for decision?

Thanks for your response,

J

Do you have an electronic "ID" card? Use it to check your record online. It will tell you if you're Belgian yet.

You only get notified if you have failed to become Belgian. Otherwise, you won't know until you either ask, or your commune sends you notification to come and get a new ID card.

crisscross

Normally if you dont hear back in 4 months it means that it is approved but that was when the rules were changed back in 2013. Not sure if its still the same now.

when we applied for nationality we were requested to explain why there were three gaps in our residency history. Just like your case it was due by lack of coordination and delays from the entities giving the ID approval (Commune, Police, CPAS) and not for being out of the country. We explained in a letter, gave proofs of being in Belgium and working and all was settled.
In our case it happened around the 2nd or 3rd months.
I guess you can already put the champagne in the fridge :)
