Belgium Nationality
Hi All,
I am a non-EU and working since 2012 in Belgium. This year in June I have applied for the Belgium nationality based on a 5 years stay at the commune in Schaerbeek. I received a letter 2 weeks after I applied end-June that my file is sent to the prosecutor since then more than 4 months passed and I did not receive any answer. Today I called the commune and they told me that they do not have still any info and I should wait and they could not tell me for how long, just it can take also more than 4 months. Do someone know is it a rule that they need to respond within 4 months or they can take longer 6 or more months? What to do in my situation wait longer or try to get the info from someone else?
Best regards,
Hamo
Schaarbeek are not the most efficient of communes. You haven't had the rejection letter from central government, so just give it a bit more time.
It can take about 5 months. If you can read French, here's the info:

Once you get the letter, it will take perhaps three weeks to get the eID card, longer if your commune is slow in processing such things (but at least at that stage you will be dealt with as a Belgian).
