Belgium mentioned in al-Qaeda intercepts
Al-Qaeda members currently planning new attacks have explicitly mentioned in Belgium in conversations recently intercepted by security services, Het Laatste Nieuws reports today. "The recent increase in security measures at Brussels Midi and at Zaventem and Liège airports is not a routine operation”, says the daily. Belgium was mentioned in discussions intercepted by U.S. intelligence. One of the conversations intercepted took place at the highest level within al-Qaeda, between its leader Ayman al-Zawahiri (pictured) and his right-hand man in Yemen, who was recently promoted to number two in the terrorist organisation. There is no indication, however, that it was during this specific conversation that Belgium was mentioned.
