Belgium has EU’s highest concentration of millionaire households

There are about 147,500 millionaire families in Belgium, it transpires from the annual Global Wealth Report published by American firm Boston Consulting Group. The figure, which refers to millionaires in US dollars, represents 3.2% of Belgian households. Belgium is ranked 12th in the world, and No 1 in the European Union . Qatar has the highest proportion of families with financial resources of at least $1m, with 14.3%. In Europe, Belgium is only surpassed by Switzerland, the world runner-up with 11.6% of millionaire families. In absolute numbers, the United States is first with nearly 5.9m millionaires, followed by Japan (1.5m) and China (1.3m). On a global scale, there are 13.8m millionaire families, representing 0.9% of the planet’s household households. Four in 100,000 Belgian families are regarded as ‘super rich’, with a private wealth of over $100m.
