Belgium experiences wettest summer in 22 years
The Belgian summer of 2014 was the wettest summer since 1992, reported meteorologist David Dehenauw on Sunday. At the national weather station in Uccle/Ukkel (south of Brussels), around 345 mm of precipitation fell in the months of June, July and August.
The months of July and August were especially wet in Uccle, with 117 and 135 mm of rainfall, respectively, compared with a standard average of 79 mm of rainfall per summer month.
Uccle/Ukkel saw a total of 550 hours of sunshine this summer, slightly below the normal level of 578 hours, said Dehenauw. The average temperature of the last three months was 17.3°C, which is just below the normal value of 17.5°C.
"August was especially chilly, with an average temperature of 16.2°C," said the weatherman. “We didn’t break any records in the last three months, but it has certainly rained a lot.”
