Belgium counts 600 app developers
Currently, some 600 people in Belgium are professionally involved in the development of mobile apps, 200 more than a year ago. The development of apps didn't take off in Belgium until 2010, but since then the sector has grown to include nearly 85 companies, according to the survey "Belgian Mobile Ecosystem Monitor" by technology federation Agoria. "These companies are popping up like mushrooms, and the market is constantly evolving and becoming more professional by the minute," says Agoria. The market for app developers, according to the federation, directly accounts for 600 jobs, and is growing by 20 percent annually. Except for freelancers (16 percent) and start-ups (48 percent), the biggest growth can be seen among IT integrators, with companies like NRB , Cegeka and Cronos Mobile employing 16 percent of developers. The vast majority of apps being developed are for smartphones (95 percent) and tablets (85 percent).
