Belgium Cello Society recital by Hayoung Choi & Ben Kim on 17 November
The Belgium Cello Society stages a recital by the two outstanding musicians Hayoung Choi and Ben Kim at Flagey in Brussels on 17 November.
South Korean, German-born cellist Hayoung Choi is renowned in Belgium as the first prize winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition.
She is described by Le Soir newspaper as a “bold cellist with intense and flamboyant playing.”
Choi is also the recipient of numerous international awards and prizes. She performs both as a soloist and chamber musician around the world, appearing with prestigious musicians and orchestras.
The cellist recently received the first FENDI Music Award and currently performs on a magnificent Goffriller cello loaned to her by the Stradivarius Habisreutinger Foundation.
American pianist Ben Kim also boasts worldwide experience with the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper describing his performances as “practically euphoric and full of vitality”.
On the programme of the recital: Janacek’s Pohádka (Fairy Tale); Schubert’s Sonata Arpeggione D.821; Poulenc’s Sonata for cello and piano, FP 143; and Weinberg’s Sonata for cello and piano n° 2.
The Belgium Cello Society (BCS), led by cellist and artistic director Han Bin Yoon, promotes and supports cello playing in Belgium.
The BCS is currently staging a series of autumn/winter recitals at ULB and Flagey. Tickets for the concert on 17 November are priced between €9 and €24.
The concert will be broadcast live on Musiq3-RTBF.
