11:24 18/05/2017

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday presented its annual global compilation of health statistics in Geneva. The report reveals that Belgium scores high in terms of alcohol consumption compared to other countries, writes Het Nieuwsblad.

Among the 194 WHO member states, Belgium ranks 29th with a consumption of 11 litres of alcohol per year per person over the age of 15, according to the report. Belgium therefore places in the top 30 of countries with the highest alcohol consumption, after neighbouring countries France (18) and Germany (23).

The first 16 places are all occupied by European countries, with Lithuania in first place with 18.2 litres of alcohol per year.
