Belgian youth want to be more handy, says study

16:08 16/04/2017

Young people in Belgium are not as handy around the house as they would like to be, according to a study commissioned by DIY chain Gamma. The study shows that more than half of Belgian young adults have never attempted to fix anything around the house, and the average Belgian do-it-yourselfer is at least 35 years old. The majority of young Belgians, however, want to be more handy but lack the skills and know-how.

The hardware store is therefore launching a series of workshops across Flanders and Brussels, where participants will learn such skills as furniture restoration, tiling and painting under the guidance of DIY professionals. The Brussels workshops take place in Anderlecht.

Well, well, well. Deemed old fashioned but now what we had in school (workshop--woodworking, repairs, painting, tools...) is now in need. Teach these skills in school as parents will not or cannot.
