Belgian Ramadan starts today

12:08 10/07/2013
For Muslims in Belgium, the Ramadan starts on Wednesday, reports the Muslim Executive, the body that represents the interests of the Muslim community in Belgium. The official start day of the fasting month, which was decided during a meeting on Monday, is based on the phase of the moon.

According to the Muslim calendar, Ramadan begins as soon as the first crescent of the new moon is visible, meaning that the exact start of Ramadan can differ from country to country. That explains why some Arab countries began fasting already on Tuesday. During Ramadan, Muslims do not eat, drink, smoke or have sexual relations between sunrise and sunset. This excludes people with physical or mental disabilities, pregnant women and young children.

Ever heard of British ramadan, or American ramadan etc.? Maybe there is ramadan in Belgium; but there is no Belgian ramadan as such, somehow (I may be wrong...).
