14:49 07/08/2016

Belgium's Raf Van Puymbroeck was named Mister Gay Europe 2016 on Friday during the contest final in Oppdal, Norway. Mister Gay Norway and Mister Gay England completed the top three, writes De Morgen.

The candidates defended their individual views during debates with journalists and politicians. Van Puymbroeck came out the strongest with his call to make Belgium more open to diversity in the sport world. More specifically, he urges sport clubs to be more accepting of LGBT people.

"The whole week has been a rollercoaster,” said Van Puymbroeck after the ceremony. “This award is the icing on the cake for me.”

The 21-year-old dance coach and teacher from Vosselaar has an undergraduate degree in physical education. He was elected Mister Gay Belgium on 29 May.
