Belgian pair in Philippine trumpet symphony celebration
Two celebrated Belgian musicians will appear as guests in the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s latest production, The Trumpet Calls, at the Francisco Santiago Hall, reports the Inquirer. The concert will feature Belgian guest artists Manu Mallearts on trumpet, and Thanos Adamopoulos as guest conductor. It will be the second concert of the MSO’s Colour Your World 2013-2014 season. Throughout the concert, the MSO will explore themes of majesty and triumph with a performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major, and Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major. Featured trumpet soloist Manu Mallearts is based in Brussels. He is the artistic director of the brass ensemble Belgian Brass and solo trumpet player of opera house La Monnaie. Last year, Mallearts gave a workshop for MSO brass members and also played as soloist for the Bamboo Organ Festival in Las Piñas. Thanos Adamopoulos has served as concertmaster of La Monnaie’s symphony orchestra. He has also served as guest coach for the distinguished Asian Youth Orchestra of which several MSO musicians have been members. He is the music director of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.
