Belgian employees among most protected in Europe

10:28 19/09/2012

Belgium is, after Italy, the most expensive European country to lay off an employee, l’Echo reports. On average, compensation for an employee in Belgium is nearly double that in neighbouring countries such as Germany, France and the Netherlands. On the other hand, the cost of giving notice to a worker in Belgium is one of the lowest in Europe, according to a comparative study by the law firm Laga. Belgium is one of the last countries in Europe to keep the distinction between worker and employee.
