Belgian abbey beer soars to East Malaysia

10:57 09/11/2012

Premium Belgian abbey beer is making further inroads into the all-important Asian market after the exclusive right to distribute Grimbergen in East Malaysia was snapped up by Luen Heng F&B (LHFB), a subsidiary of Carlsberg Malaysia, reports the Borneo Times. Grimbergen will offer the local market a large range of beers with its blond, brown, white and fruit beers with 6 to 6.7 percent alcohol content. “LHFB has always focused on the time-honoured traditions of good taste. The Grimbergen beers, the certified Belgian abbey beer, herald from the ancient Grimbergen Abbey in Belgium in 1128,” said Ricardo Loh, LHFB marketing manager, at the official launch on Wednesday. “The abbey was destroyed in three separate fires. Each time, the monks of Grimbergen took the phoenix as their symbol – a sign of the Abbey’s perpetual rebirth – and adopted the motto ‘burned but not destroyed’.”
