BCS or Acacia

Question

Hi there, I wonder if anybody has an experience with Brussels Catholic school and Acacia - both bilingial schools in Brussels? We cannot decide which school to choose for the primary section for our son- French/Ehglish speaker. Any recommendations?
Thanks

Michael

In the course of searching for schools in Brussels, we visited BICS (Rue Général Leman in Etterbeek, which is what I think you mean, http://www.bicschool.be/). The first thing we noticed was the conservative Catholic atmosphere (young priest in black cassock teaching religion class, long discourse on Catholic philosophy from the admissions director, etc.). I assume if you're deciding between BICS and Acacia, you're cool with that; we weren't, but that's just us.

The student body was very diverse with a good mix of primarily anglophone, primarily francophone, true bilingual, and allophone students, as well as a cultural and ethnic mix.

The French-component teachers we spoke with seemed fine, but we weren't impressed with the English. The head of the primary-school English department was not a native speaker. She had a Scandinavian accent and did not speak flawless idiomatic English, which seemed problematic in an English teacher.

Hopefully someone with kids actually at the school will give you a review based on more than a couple hours' visit, but those were our impressions. Needless to say, our kids aren't headed to BICS, but mostly based on the religion component.

Good luck with your search.
