Basic Fit Gym - Getting out of the membership contract

Question

I’m looking for a way to put an end to my membership contract with BASIC FIT.

Their ads go to great lengths to emphasize that one can put an immediate end to their membership contract at any given moment.
However, in practice Basic Fit makes this virtually impossible.

1) Is there any way I can put an end to this contract ASAP?
2) What happens if I simply stop paying them? Will this end up costing me more?
3) Is there any sort of class action lawsuit or other action against this company for the blatantly misleading advertising?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Sounds like there is no easy way out with out paying.
You haven't given your reasons for wanting out.
A possible way is to have a medical certificate saying that you cannot do the activities and give them one months notice.

Try speaking with them witha copy of the ad in your hand, or write to them and complain the ad was misleading, but sadly next time read the small print.

Without having seen the advert you mention, I can see that depending on what you have signed up for, there is differences in how to cancel them. Some say can be cancelled monthly while others say read terms and conditions.
As CC_R has said, you need to prove what you are saying you saw in their advert

Not much help I know, but these Gym memberships are infamous for misleading and trapping people. Google "gym membership cancellation" for a host of horror stories. In the UK it got so bad that the office of fair trading got involved and forced some major players in to changing their advertising and contracts.

Try taking them to the "Juge de Paix" in your commune...

This very low cost service often helps to resolve even quite difficult legal issues.

Explanations are on their website... If you want to put an end to your membership BASIC FIT contract, it's possible with a smart and flex contract and not possible with an easy contract. You can also try to sell your membership card to someone else because they don't check the ID at the entry of the gym. If you don't want to go to basic fit anymore you have a list of all the fitness clubs in Brussels and Belgium here http://www.fitness-clubs.be/en (no basic fit on this website :-)).

You can cancel a Basic-Fit Easy or Basic-Fit Smart contract at any time after your first (1 year) contract term. Cancelling during your initial term is only possible on medical grounds/moving out of the country.

These rules do not apply to a Basic-Fit Flex contract - which you can cancel every month. (translated from https://www.sepastop.eu/nl-be/fitness/basic-fit/)
