Barack Obama set to make first visit to Belgium in March

It may have taken more than five years after he landed the job, but if the French press agency AFP’s sources have it right, US President Barack Obama will make his first visit to Belgium in March. The president is expected to be in Brussels March 26 for a EU-American summit and bilateral talks following his trip to the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague March 24-25.

Although no official confirmations of Obama’s visit have been made from the White House or EU, it is believed that preparations for a Belgium trip are well underway.

The Brussels’ visit will also be Obama’s first opportunity to discuss US NSA espionage operations that were revealed to have included spying on EU politicians.
