A "bank" account in Kent, UK
Hi,
I would like to open an (bank) account in Kent, UK so that my child studying and living in UK can withdraw money if needed. I live in Belgium?
* I am looking for a simple account with no or minimum maintenance charges.
* Should be possible to transfer money from Belgium A/C to that A/C in Kent, UK.
* My objective right now is to keep just a small amount in the account.
* I guess a debit card will be provided to withdraw the money.
* Any other comments/suggestion?
Thanks in advance.
The problem with this plan is that no Uk bank will allow you to open an account without a Uk address -we have a Uk account we opened when we were resident, and have failed to open any more since we've been overseas. Eu student accounts are available but only once the student is there and they are not free. Good luck...
Child's age?
I think you should be asking the school who will be used to children needing access to money from parents. Schools with boarding facilities you'd expect would assist in opening up such bank accounts. Few people here are going to be able to answer your question accurately.
Remember the exorbitant charges you will pay for the transfers both in Belgium and in UK.
You can open an account in Uk, you may need a letter from the school plus the address where the child is living. This is a simple process.
Don't pay any exorbitant charges for transfers between the UK and Belgium, use a broker service to do this and I watch the exchange rates for the best time to do it. If you wanted to limit the amount, as user a broker, it's better suited to large amounts, you just deposit cash when you go to drop off / pick up your child when in the UK.
