Baby food

Question

My daughter is 6 months old. What is a good brand of baby food to buy? Also, where is the best place to buy baby food with a variety?

I

just mash up what you eat, no purées really needed at age 5 months, just a few adjustments needed for babies, make more of what you eat and freeze some. Buy a few really good cook books for babies like the Annabel Karmel ones packed with recipes that whole families can eat. That way you can avoid buying any baby food which is going to cost more than the food you can make.

It's worth considering baby-led weaning. Just cook from scratch without adding salt or sugar, offer to baby and allow to self-feed.

If you not want to make yours then go with Ella's, Sprout's or Earth's Best. they sell Ellas at Stonemanor or go to Amazon.uk. You will always find more variety online and its cheaper too but not as cheaper than steaming your on and putting it in a food processor; it makes a ton!

Good luck with whatever options you choose.

The Holle brand is also very good! You can buy this in any of the organic stores and also I believe at the Colreyut.

Have a look here: http://www.babyneo.de/.
I wouldn't give to a 6-month-old what I eat, but consider carefully how and when to introduce the food groups.

Mine is a few months older. I do a combination of home made and commercial baby food. I buy:

- Ella's kitchen (amazon.co.uk or Stonemanor)
- HIPP (Delhaize, Carrefour etc BUT be careful as some of the HiPP jars do contain salt - always check the label)
- Babybio (Rob's market- Woluwe)

There's no reason to buy commercial baby food, it's REALLY simple to make it yourself. (And make bigger batches, freeze the rest ). if you make the food yourself you can hand pick the best organic ingredients and be sure there are no additives or no salt or sugar. You can start with only one ingredient (to se that baby won't have an allergic reaction) i.e. mashed banans, carrots etc. Later add other ingredients. Get one of the steamer/blender machines -for example Philips Avent (cheap on amazon.co.uk or .de) and it is really simple!

(Oh and Hipp-food is crap - check the ingredients, often water and potaoes up to 80%!!).
