Artists give Truc Troc preview in Rogier station
Four artists exhibiting their work yesterday in the Brussels Rogier metro station were open to making a non-monetary exchange for their work during a prelude to the 12th edition of Art Truc Troc & Design, to take place on 5-7 February in Bozar. Visitors to the unique event were invited to barter items, services, materials, trips or any other proposals in exchange for a work of art. The 300 participating artists, in turn, have the option to consider any creative proposals from passers-by, such as plane tickets for a painting or coffee in exchange for a sculpture.
The way the system works is simple: passers-by see something they like, write down their proposed swap on a post-it note, and stick the note next to the desired piece. The artists are not required to accept the proposals, of course, but the number of post-it notes on a piece of art alone is a compliment to that work.
Some of the proposed swaps yesterday include a bouquet of flowers, a rail pass and a trip to Brittany.
