Applications open for €225 fuel allowance for households using heating oil or propane

Households heating their homes with oil or propane can apply for €225 credit from Thursday, reports RTBF.

Faced with rising energy prices, the federal government decided in April to grant a one-off allowance of €200 euros, later increased to €225.

The amount corresponds to the additional revenue received by the state following the increase in the prices of heating oil and propane.

It’s a measure concerning 21% of Belgian households, according to economy minister Pierre-Yves Dermagne, who initiatred the bill. The planned government budget amounts to €225 million.

Conditions for receiving one-off allowance

The financial aid is intended for households that heat their principal residence with fuel oil or bulk propane. It can be paid only once as a single premium to each household

The home fuel tank must have been must filled between 15 November 2021 and 31 December 2022. Anyone residing in a single-family home or apartment may request the check.

The measure was extended to apartment buildings with collective heating. Application forms are available online or in printed form.

How to apply online

An online tool for the reimbursement has been set up by the FPS Economy. Before completing the form, you need the fuel invoice and your ID card or smartphone.

The online form can be found in French here or Dutch here (on Thursday, the site was performing very slowly due the number of demands).

You then need to identify yourself, either with an ID card and eID reader or via Itsme. The screen should display your national register number, surname, first name and address. You need to specify if you have recently moved address. Then enter your bank account number and the information on your invoice. You must also attach scans of the invoice and proof of payment. Comments can be added before sending the request. You should receive confirmation that your request has been submitted. FPS Economy offers several tutorials explaining the application process.

Applications by post

It’s also possible to print the form to complete or request one from your fuel distributor. There are two types of forms depending on your type of accommodation. For an individual dwelling (not part of an apartment complex), printable form type A needs to be completed.

You have until 10 January 2023 to return the completed form to FPS Economy by registered mail to the following postal address:

The FPS Economy will decide on the admissibility of the application no later than 15 March  2023.
