Antwerp hosts party for the Facebook elite

11:12 27/08/2013

Belgium's first-ever "klout" party takes place tonight in Antwerp and features free bubbles, lobster and maybe a cigar. That is, if your 'value' on social media like Twitter and Facebook is high enough. So-called klout parties have been popular for a while now in the US, and now Belgium has its own edition at Antwerp's Social Media Club. Organiser Cain Ransbottyn, founder of The Other Agency, explains that the parties are especially made for the marketing and advertising world. "For advertisers who want to put their brand or product in the spotlight, it's not always easy to determine who on the internet actually has influence on public opinion. At Klout parties, however, it's simple: the only people allowed to attend are those with a high "klout score", so product visibility is pretty much guaranteed.
